NOTES: The Madden Cruiser ball club headed out to Big League Dreams in Riverside to make a go of the PSTS State Championships. The team dawned the brand new "Carolina" Blues contributed by Patrick Sullivan. Special thanks to Pat for hooking us up with the KIND shirts. Although we did find throughout the day that other teams were debating us about bad calls... only to inform them, that we were indeed, NOT the umpires. Sweet colors none-the-less. The team headed out to Buca Di Beppo's in Irvine the night prior to engage in some chemistry and comradary building. It didn't work too well as we wound up going 1-2 in this tournament. GAME 1

vs. Fear Not

Loss

18-4

Not a heck of a lot to say here... Once again we just came out flat in game one. Manager Romero is going to have to figure out a way to overcome "Flatittus" in future game ones... Fear No scored three runs in the first two innings. We tied the game up in the bottom of the 2nd with 2 runs of our own. Fear Not slowly, and methodically took us out by scoring four runs in the 3rd & 4th... and then seven more in the 5th to take a Mercy Rule Win. We only batted .279 in this first game. UGH

GAME 2

vs. Clown Fight

Win

18-16

Game two versus Clown Fight was more of a battle. We were able to jump out to a 5-2 lead through one inning . The game went back and fourth as both teams were hitting well. Clown Fight took a 16-13 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning. The bottom of the line-up sparked a come-back helping the Cruisers take an 18-16 lead. After a 1-2-3 top of the 6th, the Cruisers were able to move on to the next round. The team improved their batting average to .576 in this second game.

GAME 3

vs. Godzilla

Loss

23-12

The sticks remained hot to start the game... despite the fact the big hitting Godzilla plated six runs in the top of the first. The Cruisers rallied for five runs of their own, highlighted by a Pat Sullivan three-run homerun to Right Center. The Cruisers were able to gain the lead at 12-9 through three innings. However, a BIG inning by Godzilla killed the moral on the team and secured things up for 'Zilla. They scored eleven runs to take a 20-12 lead with 6 minutes left. After a quick 1-2-3, Gozilla went on to score three more in the top of the 5th. The Cruisers could not rally, and were sent home 1-2 and Q.
